This project explores the question: How can abstract art be interesting and personal? Through a week-long daily practice, abstract mark-making was approached using a different meaningful object each day. Each object held personal significance, infusing the process with deeper meaning and intention. The challenge was not just in making marks, but in finding unique, creative ways to use each object beyond its conventional purpose.
The final piece consists of nine 5x5-inch squares, forming a cohesive yet varied series. Using only black acrylic paint, the work emphasizes contrast, movement, and the relationship between positive and negative space. The markings are raw, gestural, and intuitive—each square a reflection of emotion, materiality, and experimentation.
This project celebrates abstraction as a tool for personal storytelling, and highlights the beauty found in process, repetition, and reinterpretation.
